Platelets, which are the smallest cellular elements of human blood, contain some growth factors that have crucial roles in blood clotting, wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Recent studies have proven that, these factors also act in the treatment of various cosmetic problems such as facial aging, skin discoloration and hair loss. These findings arose the idea of isolating these factors from a few mililiters of blood, and applying them as a concentrate, to the area that we want them to act. This is exactly what we call a PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) therapy today.

PRP therapy starts with getting a test-tube of blood sample from a vein and isolating the platelet-rich-plasma fraction of it. The isolated material is applied to the face in combination with lasers or by injection alone. This way, the rejuvenating growth factors reach some peak concentrations in the tissue and attract some cells of the immune system, which are capable of rejuvenating the tissue and increasing the blood supply to the area. As a result, the target tissue is better oxygenated and is repopulated by fresh cells. These tissue characteristics lead to a brighter and healthier looking skin, and a rapid wound healing process in cases of laser rejuvenation.

The PRP therapy is generally a single-stage application, however in some cases repeated applications may be indicated. As the injected material is totally natural and personal, there are no side effects or complications. This makes PRP therapy an effective and innocent cosmetic procedure.
